ILOILO CITY – The Police Regional Office-6 said the One Trillion Peso March against corruption in Western Visayas on Sunday, Sept. 21, was generally peaceful.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all rallyists for exercising their right to free expression in a peaceful and responsible manner. Your cooperation allowed the activities to proceed smoothly and without incident,” said PRO-6 Director Police Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan on Monday, Sept. 22.
Protest rallies were held in the regional capital Iloilo City as well as Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Guimaras provinces.
The biggest rally was conducted in Iloilo City where two groups converged at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol.
The Iloilo City Police (ICPO) lauded the people for a non-violent assembly.
“This reflected our shared commitment to democracy, peace, and responsible citizenship,” said Police Col. Kim Legada.
Civil disturbance management teams were on standby and not used when protesters delivered speeches, poetry, dance, and songs to air their grievances.
