Lacson questions CIDG's presence at Hernandez's house during 12-hour release

Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson on Monday, Sept. 21, questioned the alleged presence of members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) at the house of former Bulacan district assistant engineer Brice Hernandez during his 12-hour release from the Senate.
Currently, the Senate, through the Office of Sergeant-At-Arms (OSAA), has legal custody over Hernandez since he was cited for contempt during the Blue Ribbon Committee's investigation into anomalous flood control projects.
The CIDG is the investigation arm of the Philippine National Police (PNP), which is under the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
“May sumunod, may sumunod doon [na CIDG]. Hindi ko alam [kung bakit] (Members of the CIDG followed him, and I did now know why),” he told reporters after attending the hearing of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).
Hernandez was granted a 12-hour release from the Senate to secure evidence that would prove the allegations made before the upper chamber on the flood control project corruption scandal.
Lacson, chairman of the, Blue Ribbon Committee, said the panel allowed the witness' temporary release from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m.
“Early morning, Saturday, inescortan na siya… So nagulat nga ang OSAA… na biglang may sumunod na CIDG (He was escorted. So OSAA was surprised why CIDG members suddenly appeared),” he said.
“So I questioned. This is an entirely Senate operation, and this was upon the request of the person himself. So we did not need any search warrant kasi (because) voluntary,” Lacson, a former PNP chief, added.
The move left some “impression” on Lacson as Hernandez--who was supposed to turn over his computer to the Senate--eventually decided not to do so.
Lacson said OSAA already secured the computer, but Hernandez took it back and said he would consult with his lawyer first.
Nevertheless, he said, Hernandez’ computer was already sealed and none of his belongings was taken by CIDG.
