Alternergy acquires two new wind projects in Quezon
Renewable energy firm Alternergy Holdings Corp. is set to expand its wind energy portfolio with the acquisition of two new projects in Quezon Province from CleanTech Global Renewables, Inc.
The Tayabas North and Tayabas South wind facilities, currently under development, are slated for completion by 2028. This move, disclosed by Alternergy to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Monday, Sept. 22, follows the company’s Alabat wind energy project, which is scheduled to be finished by early 2026.
According to Alternergy president Gerry P. Magbanua, the Tayabas projects will help the company exceed its initial goal of developing 500 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy.
“The Quezon Provincial government, led by Governor Dra Helen Tan has been proactive in attracting renewable investments in her province,” Magbanua said.
The acquisition was made through a Deed of Assignment for the project assets, permits, and Wind Energy Service Contracts (WESC).
CleanTech will maintain an equity stake in both projects and has the option to co-invest. The Tayabas North Wind Energy Project, with an estimated capacity of at least 96 MW, was awarded under the fourth Green Energy Auction (GEA-4) of the Department of Energy (DOE).
Salvador Antonio Castro Jr., CEO of CleanTech, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We look forward to co-developing these wind projects with Alternergy, the pioneer in wind energy in the country.”
Earlier this month, Alternergy secured five bids in the initial GEA-4 round, which focused on various solar and onshore wind projects.
