48 houses damaged as tornadoes rip thru 3 villages in Ilocos Sur

SANTA MARIA, Ilocos Sur – Forty-eight houses were damaged by tornadoes spawned by super typhoon ‘’Nando’’ here on Monday.
Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Arwin Vendiola said the tornadoes that started in the sea struck at 11 a.m. and affected Barangays Nagsayaoan, Nagtupacan, and Maynganay Norte.
Two houses were partially damaged in Barangay Maynganay Norte. Sixteen houses were partially affected in Barangay Nagtupacan.
Vendiola said that they are verifying and validating 20 houses partially damaged in Barangay Nagsayaoan.
“Most of the houses affected had their galvanized roofs detached after they were hit. Some partially damaged houses were covered by falling debris and branches of trees,” he said.
He added that electric posts fell and some vinegar stalls on the national highway were partially damaged. “Fortunately, no one was hurt when the three villages were hit by the alleged tornadoes.”
Vendiola said repair of affected houses, clearing of trees, and assessment of affected families and damages are ongoing.
