LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Four-hundred six families or 1,299 individuals were initially affected by super typhoon “Nando” in Isabela province, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office said Monday.
Local governments have implemented pre-emptive measures and prepared evacuation centers.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office is closely monitoring water levels in northern Isabela towns, which have shown a slight increase based on recent measurements.
On Sunday, four water search and rescue teams were deployed by Gov. Rodito T. Albano to Cabagan, San Pablo, Santa Maria, and Santo Tomas to provide immediate assistance in flood-prone areas.
The Isabela provincial information office said that the National Irrigation Administration announced that three spillway gates of Magat Dam are expected to release water due to rising reservoir levels caused by Nando on Monday morning.
High alert
The Deployable Response Group (DRG) of the Philippine Coast Guard District Northeastern Luzon, along with its Coast Guard stations and sub-stations, is on high alert for Nando in Cagayan Valley.
About 34 families or 110 individuals were temporarily evacuated in the municipality of Ballesteros, Cagayan due to Nando. They are staying in barangay halls.
The MDRRMO continues to monitor various barangays, especially areas that may be affected by heavy rains from the typhoon.
