Vice President Sara Duterte attended two Filipino community-sponsored rallies in the cities of Sumida and Nagoya in Japan this weekend, calling for the end of corruption in government and the release of former president Rodrigo Duterte from detention.
During her speech in Sumida City, Tokyo, over the weekend, the Vice President also affirmed plans for the “Pray for the Philippines” rally in her hometown of Davao City, where protesters urged the government to act against corruption and other illegal activities, including the arrest of the former chief executive.
Simultaneously, Filipinos across the country also joined the “Trillion Peso March” to protest the anomalous flood control projects and call for justice amid the involvement of some high-ranking public officials. Allies of both the Dutertes and Marcoses were tagged in the issue.
“Pagpiyestahan namin ang mga buwaya (We will feast on crocodiles),” she told the Filipino community at the Sumida Riverside Hall after sharing with them the plans for the Davao City rally on Saturday, Sept. 20.

According to the Vice President, the Crocodile Park in Davao City personally called her to say that they were sending a “lechon buwaya (roasted crocodile)” to the rally, while a massive crocodile-shaped cake was to be sent by a friend who owns several bakery shops.
Crocodiles have been used to describe corrupt officials as they are associated with greed, deceit, and nepotism.
During her speech in Sumida City, the younger Duterte called out President Marcos for the “non-stop pambubudol (scamming)” of Filipinos, even questioning his latest move to return P60 billion to the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
On Sunday, Sept. 21, the Vice President delivered another speech before the Filipino community at the Miwa Cultural Center in Ama City, Nagoya.
Both events in Tokyo and Nagoya were organized by the Filipino community there.
