Protesters gather at EDSA People Power Monument, Quezon City on Sunday, Sept. 21,2025 (Santi San Juan)
Various groups gathered on Sunday, Sept. 21, to protest against corruption at the EDSA People Power Monument in White Plains, Quezon City.
The program began with opening statements from Rep. Kaka Bag-ao and youth leader Elijah Canlas.
“Masaya ako makakita ng maraming kabataan dito ngayon at marami pang mas nakakatanda na patuloy na lumalaban (I'm happy to see so many young people here today and so many older people who continue to fight),” Canlas said.
In an interview, Akbayan Representative Atty. Chel Diokno emphasized that the gathering sought to amplify the people’s demand for accountability.
“Ang gusto po natin, ang sigaw ng bayan ay pananagutan. Kaya po kami naririto para ipaabot sa buong Pilipinas ang sigaw ng bayan (What we want, the cry of the people, is accountability. That is why we are here to convey the cry of the people to the entire Philippines),” Diokno said.
He added that accountability should go beyond rhetoric.
“Walang pananagutan kung walang madala sa kulungan. Hanggang sa kaduluhan, dapat magkaroon ng accountability. Kahit sino man ang involved diyan, ano man ang kulay, ano man ang politika, kung meron silang pagkasala ay dapat maparusahan (There is no accountability if no one is taken to jail. In the end, there must be accountability. Whoever is involved in that, whatever the color, whatever the politics, if they are guilty, they must be punished),” he said.
According to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), as of 10 a.m., over 700 participants were already in the area.
A series of protest activities will take place at the People Power Monument and EDSA shrine ahead of the scheduled Trillion Peso March this afternoon.
