Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso
Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno" Domagoso vowed to go after the unruly and violent rioters who destroyed government properties and hurt policemen during the conduct of anti-corruption rallies in parts of Manila on Sunday, Sept. 21.
During his inspection in Mendiola, Manila on Sunday, Domagoso promised to file criminal and civil charges against those involved in the riots that left 84 policemen hurt, and damaged private and government properties.
“Nalulungkot tayo. Masyadong malaki ang damage na ginawa. I don’t think mga rallyista iyon. They were in their respective places in the morning and in the afternoon (We are sad. The damage done was too great. I don’t think it was the rallyists. They were in their respective places in the morning and in the afternoon)," Domagoso said as he pointed out the destruction left by the rioters.
“Nagdesisyon sila ng ganyan, then we will throw the books at them, for all those damages, government properties, lahat ng na-apprehend will be charged, and I will make sure, I will make sure that they will pay the price. Sumali ka, nakisapakat ka, nahuli ka, sama ka sa danyos. Criminal and civil, we will charge them, the City Government of Manila will charge them, whatever the Philippine National Police will charge them (This is what they chose to do, then we will throw the books at them, for all those damages, government properties, all those apprehended will be charged, and I will make sure, I will make sure that they will pay the price. You joined, you colluded, you got caught, you will pay for the damages. Criminal and civil, we will charge them, the City Government of Manila will charge them, whatever the Philippine National Police will charge them)," he stressed.
The mayor also thanked law enforcers for practicing restraint even amid the violence.
“Ipinagpapasalamat ko sa Philippine National Police, as you can see, nakita ninyo na ang kapulisan practiced high tolerance, literally, as much as they can. I praise the Philippine National Police for doing so and respecting the likes of those rallyists who expressed themselves. Ang Maynila ay may humigit-kumulang isang libong CCTV. We’ll go after them. Nakakalungkot. It’s a good thing you asked that. We’ll do our best to clean up the mess (I thank the Philippine National Police, as you can see, you saw that the police practiced high tolerance as much as they can. I praise the Philippine National Police for doing so and respecting the likes of those rallyists who expressed themselves. Manila has about a thousand CCTVs. We’ll go after them. It’s sad, but we’ll do our best to clean up the mess)," he noted.
