Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso reminded city government personnel of their mission to serve the people and ensure their safety as mass protests against corruption in parts of Manila commenced on Sunday, Sept. 21.
"Ang bilin ko lang, simple: tayo ay tutulong. Basta tayo, bilang gobyerno sa Maynila. Kung may mangangailangan ng medical assistance, kahit sino, ulitin ko, kahit sino pa sila na mangangailangan ng assistance nila, tutulungan natin (My only order is simple: we will help. We will help as much as we can as the city government of Manila. If anyone needs medical assistance, anyone, I repeat, anyone, who needs their assistance, we will help)," Domagoso said as he addressed the 300 personnel from various offices of the city government deployed to the 14 protest sites set up across Manila.
“In our own little way as the city government of Manila, we are going to deliver public service. Mag-ingat lang kayo. Ayaw ko kayong makisali. Tutulong lang tayo. Iyon ang purpose natin dito (In our own little way as the city government of Manila, we are going to deliver public service. Just be careful. I don't want you to involve yourselves directly to the protests. We are just helping. That is our purpose here)," he added.
The mayor said the deployment covers 300 personnel from the Department of Public Services (DPS), Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB), Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW), Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MCDRRMO), and Manila Health Department (MHD).
Domagoso explained that the deployed workers will provide medical aid, water, sanitation, and traffic management support during the day’s mass protests.
“Good luck sa inyo. Mag-ingat kayo (Please take care). May God guide and bless you, and keep you safe today, and our people and those people who will come in the City of Manila. Manila, God first,” Domagoso stressed.
