Mayor Isko orders MPD: Strictly enforce curfew on minors
Manila Mayor Francisco Isko Moreno Domagoso
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno" Domagoso directed the Manila Police District (MPD) to strictly enforce curfew hours for minors in the nation’s capital following a slew of violence that erupted in parts of the city during the conduct of anti-corruption rallies on Sunday, Sept. 21.
According to Manila's Public Information Office (PIO), Domagoso reiterated that the issuance of Executive Order No. 2, Series of 2025, calls for the enforcement of curfew hours of 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. on minors aged 17 and below.
The mayor said the directive aims to ensure the safety of minors during mass gatherings and maintain peace and order in the community.
Several youth protesters clad in black masks and balaclavas were involved in violent clashes with the police on Ayala Bridge and Mendiola, Manila, as various groups launched simultaneous demonstrations across Metro Manila and other parts of the country to demand accountability from the widespread corruption in the government.
During the altercation on Ayala Bridge, a policeman and a reporter were left hurt after masked protesters hurled debris and other objects at the police, as well as lighting on fire a container van being used as a barricade against protesters.
Around 17 youth individuals were arrested by the police, including an 11-year-old boy.
In Mendiola, the police were forced to use water cannons and a long-range acoustic device to disperse the masked protesters as they threw rocks, metal fences, and a firecracker at the deployed policemen.
