DHSUD activates shelter clusters in Luzon amid 'Nando' threat
The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has activated shelter clusters in areas that are projected to be affected by typhoon ‘Nando” amid the threats of heavy rains and strong winds.
Weather experts said ‘Nando” would likely develop into a super typhoon and DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling said preparations were already prepared in northern and central part of Luzon.
“The activation of shelter clusters is meant to keep the proactive stance of DHSUD Regional Offices (ROs), ensuring immediate extension of shelter assistance to affected families at the earliest possible time when necessary,” said Aliling.
"DHSUD is ready to extend emergency response and humanitarian assistance as needed,” he added.
He said the same measures were implemented in Calabarzon, MImaropa and Bicol region.
DHSUD is the head of the national government's Shelter Cluster by virtue of NDRRMC Memorandum 01-2022.
In 2023, DHSUD launched the Integrated Disaster Shelter Assistance Program (IDSAP) that provides unconditional cash assistance to families with destroyed or damaged houses due to calamities whether man-made or naturally induced.
The department also previously distributed Housing Materials and Essentials (HOMEs) as immediate assistance to affected families.
