No-fly zones over Luneta Park, EDSA Shrine amid mass rallies
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced that Luneta Park in Manila and the EDSA Shrine in Quezon City will be designated as temporary no-fly zones for all aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on Sunday, Sept. 21.
The restriction will take effect from 6 a.m. on Sunday until 6 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 22.
The advisory comes ahead of planned mass rallies in the two areas, which are expected to draw tens of thousands of participants.
Authorities said the measure is intended to ensure the safety of both demonstrators and the general public, as well as to prevent any potential aerial hazards.
According to CAAP, all aircraft and UAVs are prohibited from flying within a 15-nautical mile radius of the center of Luneta Park and EDSA Shrine, from the surface up to 10,000 feet.
The agency emphasized that this includes both commercial and private drones, and violators may face regulatory sanctions.
CAAP also reminded aviation operators to plan alternate routes and avoid the restricted zones during the stated period.
Pilots are advised to coordinate with the agency for flight clearances and updates, particularly in Metro Manila’s congested airspace, to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Authorities underscored that the restriction is temporary and only applies to the specified timeframe in connection with the rallies.
Officials continue to monitor developments on the ground and in the air to maintain safety and order during the public demonstrations.
