Bahain ng Galit: Hundreds join rally vs corruption in Bulacan
“Bahain ng galit ang mga buwayang kurakot!” (Let our anger engulf the corrupt!)
This was one of the chants of more than 500 protesters who marched from Malolos City Cathedral to the Mini Forest Children’s Park inside the Bulacan Provincial Capitol compound on Sunday, Sept. 21.
The protest against corruption gained momentum after Bulacan became the focus of an investigation into anomalous flood control projects in Calumpit, Hagonoy, Baliuag, Malolos, San Jose del Monte City, and Sta. Maria.
Allegedly involved in the reported substandard and “ghost” flood control projects in the province were several contractors, current and former officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and other government employees.
The protesters expressed outrage over the flood control anomalies as they prepared to join the nationwide protest actions against corruption, coinciding with the commemoration of the declaration of martial law in 1972 under former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
The biggest rallies were set to take place in EDSA, Rizal Park, and Mendiola. Organizers said the protests aim to “sound the alarm” to the government and call for the mass arrest of officials allegedly involved in the anomalous flood control projects and other cases of corruption.
