Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima has cautioned Filipinos against certain personalities who may want to take advantage of the people’s anger toward the government for their personal gains.
She gave special mention to one individual in particular--Vice President Sara Duterte.
De Lima on Sunday, Sept. 21 joined Filipinos in their massive public demonstrations against corruption in government, particularly in connection with flood control projects scandal.
De Lima said.
(I’m just asking: Let’s ignite our anger not to lead to violence or brutality, but for the triumph of justice and the rule of law. We know there are those who want us to be in chaos. We saw what happened in Indonesia and Nepal, but that doesn’t mean we’ll allow ourselves to be used by attention-seekers and those with personal agendas. We’ve already been robbed, and now they want to hijack our principles. You can’t fool us!)
"Isa ka na dyan Sara Duterte! Akala mo lusot ka na? Natabunan man ang impeachment, hinding-hindi kami nakakalimot. Huwag kang magmalinis. Isa ka rin sa dapat managot!" added the former senator.
(You’re one of them Sara Duterte! You think you're off the hook? The impeachment may have been set aside, but we never forget. Don't act like you're clean. You should also be held accountable.)
De Lima, also a former Department of Justice (DOJ) secretary, was tapped as a prosecutor in the impeachment case filed by the House of Representatives against Vice President Duterte.
However, last July, the Supreme Court (SC) struck down the complaint against the Vice President for supposedly being unconstitutional. This, after the House violated the one-year bar rule on the filing of impeachment cases against impeachable officials.
The earliest date that a new impeachment complaint against Duterte could be filed is Feb. 6, 2026.
The House of Representatives had filed a motion for reconsideration (MR) on the SC decision.
