113 arrested in violent anti-corruption rallies in Manila — MPD

The Manila Police District (MPD) announced that 113 protesters were nabbed after engaging in violent acts against deployed police officers during the conduct of anti-corruption protests in different parts of Manila on Sunday, Sept, 21.
In his report to Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso, MPD Chief Brig. Gen. Arnold Abad said masked demonstrators at Luneta Park, Ayala Bridge, and Mendiola turned violent by stomping, pushing, and hurling stones, barricades, glass bottles, and foul-smelling liquid substances mixed with paint at police officers.
The breakdown of arrested individuals as of 4:34 a.m. of Sept. 22, is as follows:
Ayala Bridge - A total of 51 individuals arrested:
-38 adults;
-2 minors (turned over to Reception and Action Center (RAC) of the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW); and
-11 minors subject for determination of discernment.
Mendiola – A total of 21 individuals arrested:
-14 adults;
-7 minors subject for determination of discernment.
C.M. Recto - A total of 41 individuals arrested:
-13 adults;
-28 minors subject for determination of discernment.
All arrested individuals will remain under MPD custody under its District Investigation and Detective Management Division (DIDMD) and Women and Children Protection Section (WCPS). They will be charged with malicious mischief, violations of the Anti-Barricade Act, and other related offenses.
The minors, on the other hand, will be handled in coordination with the MDSW to ensure proper processing and welfare assistance.
The official stressed that evidence, including surveillance footage and recovered debris, has been preserved and turned over to investigators to strengthen case build-up.
He added that immediate medical aid was extended to those injured during the clashes.
“Continuous monitoring and intelligence operations are ongoing to prevent further disturbances, maintain peace, and ensure the protection of public properties and citizens’ rights,” the MPD chief said.
