Vice President Sara Duterte has a special present for President Marcos’ 68th birthday last Sept. 13: her very own composition calling for the end to greed and abuses in government.
“Mga sakim, durugin na (Let’s bring down the greedy),” the lyrics read.
Duterte said she composed the song for more than two weeks, but wasn’t able to finish it before Marcos’ birthday last Sept. 13.
“Hindi siya umabot sa birthday. Kasi sinulat ko po siya na inulit-ulit, ulit-ulit pa hanggang nabuo siya nang maayos (I wasn’t able to finish it in time for his birthday. I rewrote it again and again until I was able to complete it),” she added.
The Vice President shared this in her speech before the Filipino community in Japan, where a “Pagtitipon ng Pagkakaisa Para Kay Tatay Digong” was held at the Sumida Riverside Hall in Sumida City, Tokyo on Saturday, Sept. 20.
Another rally will be held on Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Miwa Cultural Center in Ama City, Nagoya.
The back-to-back rallies coincide with the Trillion Peso March at the Rizal Park and the EDSA People Power Monument on Sunday, which is also the anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law.
In the lyrics of her composition that she sang during the rally, Duterte described how Filipinos were “born” in the darkness and continue to suffer while “sila (they)” drown in their own wealth.
“Sigaw ng bayan, lumaban na (The nation shouts it’s time to fight),” Duterte sang. “Taas noo, humahakbang. Wag yumuko kailanman (We proudly take a step, do now bow down no matter what).”
During her speech, she also called out Marcos—a former political ally—for scamming the Filipinos.
“Non-stop ang pambubudol at sobrang kapal ng mukha na parang hindi na nahihiya na binubudol yung mga Pilipino (He’s been scamming us non-stop and he’s really thick-faced and has no qualms about scamming the Filipinos),” she added.

Here’s the full lyrics of the Vice President’s song:
Sa dilim, tayo sinilang.
Sa hirap, tayo nagdurusa.
Sagana sila sa kayamanan.
Taong bayan, nilunod sa parusa.
Kami ay apoy na hindi mapatay.
Hakbang ng matapang, sabay-sabay.
Sigaw ng bayan, lumaban na.
Mga sakim, durugin na.
Mga bulok na pangako,
palasyong ipinatong sa ating buto.
Krimeng itinago sa kasinungalingan.
Kalayaan natin ipinagpalit sa ginto.
Kami ay apoy na hindi mapatay.
Hakbang ng matapang, sabay-sabay.
Sigaw ng bayan, lumaban na.
Mga sakim, durugin na.
Kami ay apoy na hindi mapatay.
Hakbang ng matapang, sabay-sabay.
Sigaw ng bayan, lumaban na.
Mga sakim, durugin na.
Taas noo, humahakbang.
Wag yumuko kailanman.
Taas noo, humahakbang.
Wag yumuko kailanman.
