The City of Manila was placed under Red Alert Status, following the recommendation of the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MCDRRMC).
The heightened alert was declared in anticipation of the possible effects of Typhoon Nando, which is expected to bring heavy rains and potential flooding, as well as the scheduled rally at Luneta on Sept. 21 to mark the 53rd anniversary of Martial Law.
Authorities said they expect thousands of participants to gather at the historic park, prompting extensive preparations for crowd management and security measures.
Under Red Alert Status, all disaster response units, medical teams, and law enforcement agencies have been placed on full standby for immediate deployment.
City officials assured residents that contingency plans are ready to address both the weather disturbance and the large-scale public assembly.
The local government urged the public to stay vigilant, follow official advisories, and cooperate with authorities to ensure public safety amid the twin challenges of the approaching typhoon and the mass gathering.
