The Philippine College of Surgeons (PCS) has expressed solidarity with Filipinos calling for transparency and accountability, saying the medical profession stands firmly against any form of graft and corruption in the country.
In a statement, the surgeons’ group underscored its commitment to integrity and good governance as the nation prepares for the nationwide rally against corruption on Sept. 21.
“We acknowledge the growing call for transparency, accountability, and reform across our nation. In the spirit of our vocation—healing, service, and ethical leadership—we stand for accountability, integrity in practice, governance, and daily conduct which should be the standard for everyone,” the PCS said.
The group said it is one with the public in prayer and intention for a peaceful and nonviolent show of civic engagement.
“As the country gathers for the nationwide rally against corruption on September 21, we hold in prayer and in intention the peace, unity, and discernment needed for a peaceful, constructive, and nonviolent display of civic engagement. We are one with the nation in putting a stop to any form of graft and corruption in the country,” it added.
The PCS urged humility and compassion in the fight against corruption while stressing the need to uphold the common good.
“May our actions—individually and collectively—be guided by humility, compassion, and a deep commitment to the common good while we shun any attempt of misuse of public funds. May peace guide our steps, may unity strengthen our resolve, and may the pursuit of a just and transparent society benefit every Filipino and our future generation,” it said.
Marking the Martial Law anniversary on Sept. 21, several groups are set to stage protests, pressing calls to end corruption and hold leaders accountable over alleged irregular flood control projects.
