Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte reaffirmed her commitment to transparency and accountability as she joined fellow leaders of the Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG) in strengthening their collective fight against corruption on Thursday, Sept. 18.
Belmonte met with Baguio City Mayor Benjie Magalong, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, and Isabela City Mayor Sitti Hataman to tackle measures that will bolster calls for clean governance and reforms in local government units.
She expressed her full support for Magalong in his role as Special Adviser and Investigator of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), which is probing alleged irregularities in flood control and other infrastructure projects.
The group also discussed activities to further promote good governance in their respective cities and welcomed the entry of new members into the alliance.
Belmonte underscored that citizen participation plays a crucial role in ensuring lasting reforms, noting that the unity of M4GG with the public strengthens the fight for accountability.
On the same day, Belmonte also met with ICI officials and turned over the results of Quezon City’s fact-finding probe into the 331 flood control projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
To highlight transparency, she personally led ICI members to visit several flood control project sites in the city, vowing continued support for efforts to resolve problems that have long burdened residents.
