Authorities intercepted about ₱27.2 million worth of crystal meth or “shabu” from a South African passenger at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport on Thursday, Sept. 18, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) reported.
PDEA Director Joel Plaza identified the suspect as Keith Charles Moore Koeremoer, 33, who was allegedly caught with around 4,000 grams of shabu concealed in two wooden boxes disguised as hardbound books.
The operation was conducted by the PDEA Regional Office-7 in coordination with the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and other law enforcement agencies.
The PDEA said that Koeremoer, who works as an information technology technician, is listed as a high-value target of anti-narcotics authorities.
Koeremoer faces charges for violating Section 4 (Importation of Illegal Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. If convicted, he may face life imprisonment and a fine ranging from P500,000 to P10 million.
