An official of the Philippine Ports Authority was shot dead in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on Wednesday night, Sept. 17.
Police identified the victim as lawyer Joshua Abrina, administrative division officer-in-charge of the PPA Port Management Office Palawan.
Investigation said Abrina had just arrived home from a prayer meeting with his family when an unidentified man appeared and shot him at 8:15 p.m.
He was taken to hospital where he was declared dead.
The Puerto Princesa police has formed a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) for the immediate resolution of the case.
The SITG will intensify investigative efforts, harmonize coordination among law enforcement units, and utilize all available resources to identify and apprehend the suspect.
Police condemned the incident.
"The PPCPO strongly condemns this senseless act of violence and assures the public, the victim’s family, and the community that a holistic efforts is being undertaken to ensure that justice is served.We are committed to pursuing all leads and exerting utmost effort to resolve this case promptly.”
The PPA also condemned the killing of Abrina.
“We denounce this act of violence in the strongest possible terms and call on law enforcement authorities to pursue all leads to bring the perpetrators to justice,” it said.
“Violence and intimidation have no place in a civilized society, and such actions will never deter the PPA community from performing its mandate of serving the Filipino people,” it added.
Lawmen are conducting follow-up investigation.
