The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, Sept. 18, reported that there is currently “no threat of river flooding” in the Bicol River Basin.
In its hydrological forecast issued at 6 a.m., the agency clarified that while river flooding is not expected, “water confinement in roads, low-lying areas may occur due to thunderstorms.”
The state weather bureau said the region will continue to experience “partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms… due to the Southwest Monsoon.”
Forecast maps from the Bicol River Basin Flood Forecasting and Warning Center indicated expected average rainfall of up to more than 20 millimeters in some areas within the next 24 hours, although river trends remain generally stable.
PAGASA reminded residents and local disaster offices to stay alert, especially in flood-prone areas, as thunderstorms could still trigger localized flooding despite the absence of major river swelling.
