Majority leader Ilocos Norte 1st district Sandro Marcos doesn't see a full-on rigodon happening at the House of Representatives following the change in the Speakership Wednesday, Sept. 17.
The reason? The House must focus on passing the proposed P6.793-trillion national budget.
"Sa tingin ko...nasa gitna po tayo ng budget, kailangan nating ipasa ang pinaka-importanteng batas at ito ay yung budget (I think...we're in the middle of the budget deliberations, we need to pass to most important law of all, and that is the budget)," Rep. Marcos said when asked if there would be a shake-up among the plum posts in the lower chamber
"So I don't think there will be any changes for now in the chairmanships or in the composition of the leadership dahil lang (just because) its too disruptive," said the presidential son.
On Wednesday afternoon, Leyte 1st district Rep. Martin Romualdez resigned as House Speaker. Replacing him was Isabela 6th district Rep. Faustino "Bojie" Dy III, an ally of President Marcos like Romualdez.
This change up top sparked speculations that Dy would designate new House leaders to replaced the ones who have been installed under Romualdez's watch in the 20th Congress.
But the budget discussions are entering a crucial phase in the House of Representatives. House Bill (HB) No.4058, the legislative equivalent of the P6.793-trillion National Expenditure Program (NEP), has been filed; the Committee on Appropriations is also busy preparing for the start of the plenary debates on the budget this coming Sept. 22.
Asked if the House would eventually pick new leaders and committee heads under Dy, Rep. Marcos answered: Hindi po ako yung Speaker, tanungin niyo po yung Speaker. Hindi po ako ang nagde-decide (I'm not the Speaker, you should ask the Speake. I'm not the one who decides)."
