Incoming Gabriela Women's Party Party-list Rep. Sarah Elago will formally take her oath of office on Monday, Sep. 22, at the House of Representatives.
Her return to the lower chamber came after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBC), issued a decision to allocate an additional seat for party-lists in compliance with the 20 percent rule set by the 1987 Constitution.
Gabriela, which garnered 256,811 votes during the 2025 midterm elections, ranked 55th in the party-list race.
On Wednesday, Sept. 17, the Comelec en banc proclaimed Elago in a simple ceremony held at the Comelec office in Intramuros, Manila.
Elago is set to take her oath in the House of Representatives during plenary session, which will resume next week.
The incoming lawmaker said Gabriela will join the minority bloc after an election that she said was "hard fought and hard won".
"[We] hope to join the minority as we maintain independent and faithful in advancing the agenda of women para sa agenda ng mga maralitang kababaihan (for the agenda of the poor women)," she said in a press conference Thursday, Sept. 18.
Among the agenda she will pursue in the Congress include pushing for lower food prices, strengthening the anti-violence against women measure, and passing divorce and anti-discrimination bills.
Elago is a former Kabataan Party-list solon.
