Biazon commends law officially naming Barangay Ayala Alabang
Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon commended a new law that renamed Barangay New Alabang Village to Barangay Ayala Alabang.
Republic Act 12281, or An Act Renaming Barangay New Alabang Village in the City of Muntinlupa as Barangay Ayala Alabang, lapsed into law on Sept. 7.
The name Barangay Ayala Alabang, which covers the posh Ayala Alabang Village, has been used by people for years.
“We welcome the passage of this bill into law and we congratulate and thank Congressman Jaime Fresnedi for this initiative. The residents of Barangay Ayala Alabang will finally have consistency in the name of their community and it will solve the confusion caused by the difference between the official name and commonly used name of the community,” said Biazon.
He added, “While the official name of New Alabang has been there since the beginning, the residents and the rest of Muntinlupa including the LGU has been referring to it as Ayala Alabang for many years. This legislation will finally give the community a permanent nomenclature.”
Based on the new law, “The renaming of Barangay New Alabang Village as Barangay Ayala Alabang shall be effective upon ratification of the majority of the votes cast by qualified voters in a plebiscite to be conducted and supervised by the Commission on Elections in the present Barangay New Alabang Village within one hundred twenty (120) days after the effectivity of this Act. The expenses for such plebiscite shall be borne by the City of Muntinlupa.”
The Comelec Muntinlupa office will conduct the plebiscite.
“This Act, which originated in the House of Representatives, was passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Philippines on January 22, 2025 and June 9, 2025, respectively. This Act shall take effect fifteen (15) days after its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation,” the law stated.
