BACOLOD CITY – A two-year-old girl from Barangay Mandalagan died from dengue recently, the sixth death from the mosquito-borne disease here this year.
A City Health Office (CHO) report as of Sept. 7 said the victim experienced fever and vomiting on Sept. 1 and was admitted to a hospital six days later.
She passed away on Sept. 7 due to hemorrhagic shock caused by dengue fever.
This highly-urbanized city’s first dengue death was recorded in February – a 64-year-old man from Barangay Alijis.
He was followed by a 42-year-old woman from Barangay Mansilingan in April and two children in July – a six-year-old girl from Barangay Handumanan and a five-year-old boy from Barangay Vista Alegre – and a four-year-old boy from Barangay Villamonte in August.
The CHO logged 811 dengue cases from Jan. 1 to Sept. 6, a 42.3 percent decrease compared to the 1,406 cases and three deaths during the same period last year.
