13 rescued, 5 of them minors, in anti-human trafficking operation in Taguig
Police operatives rescued 13 people, including five minors, from a spa in an anti-human trafficking operation in Taguig on Sept. 17.
The Taguig police launched the operation at a spa located in Barangay New Lower Bicutan after receiving a report.
Authorities arrested two suspects identified as Rafael, 39, spa owner; and Riza, 35, co-owner and massage therapist.
They will face charges for violating Republic Act 9208 (Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003) as amended by Republic Act 10364 and Republic Act 11862 (Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act).
Among the 13 rescued were eight adults, including a person with disability and seven others aged 19 to 31.
They were immediately referred, together with the minors, to the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office in Taguig for assistance.
The rescue operation was conducted after the Taguig police’s Station Intelligence Section received information about alleged illicit sexual services being offered by both minor and adult therapists.
To validate the report, confidential informants conducted discreet surveillance and posed as customers.
After confirming the illegal activities, operatives from the Intelligence Section, the Women and Children Protection Desk, and Substation 9, in coordination with social welfare officers, launched a rescue operation.
Brig. Gen. Randy Arceo, acting district director of the Southern Police District, commended the action of the Taguig police
“This successful operation highlights our firm commitment to protect the most vulnerable members of our society, especially minors, from exploitation and abuse,” he said.
