Who is Faustino 'Bojie' Dy III?

Faustino "Bojie" Dy III, representative of Isabela's 6th District, was not a household name among Filipinos until his assumption of the House speakership of the 20th Congress on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
His rise to become the fourth highest official in the country came against the backdrop of growing criticism to the government amid corruption allegations surrounding the billions-worth of flood control projects.move cam
Bojie Dy's election as the new House speaker was aimed at regaining the public trust in the institution.
But who is Bojie Dy, the man who replaced the once irreplaceable cousin of President Marcos, former House Speaker Martin Romualdez?
Positions held
Dy is not new to politics, although his name does not generally ring a bell to most Filipinos. He has been holding different government positions consistently since 1992 in his home province of Isabela.
He served as mayor of Cauayan, Isabela from 1992 to 2001; representative of Isabela's 3rd District from 2001 to 2010; provincial governor from 2010 to 2019 and vice governor from 2019 to 2025.
But his journey to the top did not come smooth. In 2020, he faced plunder and graft allegations, along with 12 other provincial officials, over an allegedly anomalous rehabilitation and improvement of the 82-kilometer Ilagan-Divilacan Isabela Road.
It was filed before the Office of the Ombudsman by former Angadanan mayor Manuel Siquian, who was the Dy family's political rival.
Dy's father is Faustino Ng Dy Sr., the patriarch of the Dy political dynasty who had served both as a provincial governor and a mayor of Cauayan.
In the House of Representatives, Dy has two relatives who are incumbent congressmen. They are Isabela 3rd District Rep. Ian Paul Dy and Isabela 5th District Rep. Faustino Michael Carlos Dy III.
He is also the father of Echague Mayor Faustino Dy V, the former and the first representative of Isabela's newly-created 6th District.
Dy is a member of the ruling party of the Philippines, the Marcos-chaired Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP).
Records of the 20th Congress showed that Dy principally authored 20 bills.
These include a measure granting "compassionate leave" of five full days to all employees; a measure establishing a special economic zone in Isabela; a measure aimed at protecting the Sierra Madre Range; and a measure establishing the Philippine Corn Institute.
Dy also pushed to create a district engineering office in Isabela's 6th District and sought to probe an investigation into the collapse of Cabagan-Sta. Maria Bridge.
Dy reportedly enjoyed strong backing for the speakership role because "he had been a good congressman, governor and vice governor of Isabela." The province also became "stable" under his leadership, according to House Deputy Speaker Jay Khonghun.
