Vice President Sara Duterte expects to face another impeachment complaint—if the current one does not push through—by next year.

She said that even if the current impeachment case under a motion for reconsideration at the Supreme Court will not continue, another one will be filed next year or even in 2027 and 2028.
“Oh yes. Kasi kung hindi man ‘yan matuloy ngayon, 2025, I'm sure mag-file ‘yan 2026, mag-file ‘yan 2027 or even siguro (If that doesn’t push through now, 2025, I’m sure they will file in 2026, they will file in 2026 or even maybe) 2028 right before the presidential elections,” she told reporters during an interview on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Duterte was at the House of Representatives to attend the budget hearing for the Office of the Vice President (OVP) before the Committee on Appropriations.
“So, this is all about the presidential elections of 2028,” she added.
During the hearing, ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio asked Duterte about her use of P125-million confidential funds.
But the Vice President responded that she would rather not answer a question that is the subject of the current impeachment case against her.
The House of Representatives impeached Duterte on Feb. 5, and subsequently sent the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate on the same day.
But the Senate went on a recess without taking up the issue and archived the impeachment in August after the Supreme Court declared it as unconstitutional.
A motion seeking the SC to reconsider its decision is currently pending.
