- Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III said he believes Dy is "capable and a very good choice" to be the new House leader.
Senators on Wednesday, September 17 welcome the election of Isabela 6th District Rep. Faustino “Bojie” Dy III as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said he believes Dy is “capable and a very good choice” to be the new House leader.
“He was part of my party, he was originaly from the NPC (Nationalist Peoples Coalition). He just joined the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) during the recent elections because he wants to be part of the party of the President. But he has always been an NPC,” Sotto told reporters in an interview.
Asked if he was surprised about the latest development, Sotto said he wasn’t, as he was asked to cancel the upcoming deliberations of the Commission on Appointments (CA) on Tuesday because he was informed of the possible change in the House leadership.
Sotto also assured that with Dy at the helm of the House leadership, passage of the proposed 2026 national budget would be on time.
“Hopefully, we will do our best to make sure it will be passed before the end of the year,” he said, adding that he is also open to have dialogues with the new House Speaker as soon as his leadership has also settled other issues such as changes in the chairmanship of committees.
Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero, who was replaced as Senate president by Sen. Vicente Sotto III just recently, said he personally know the lawmaker and believes he can lead the House “during this critical period.”
“I have personally known Bojie for a long time and I am confident that his experience and steady leadership will serve the House well during this critical period,” Escudero said in a statement.
But Escudero said the new changes in the House leadership should not distract the public from the unresolved issues surrounding past budgets and infrastructure anomalies.
“Leadership changes must lead to institutional reform, not selective amnesia,” he said.
“I wish Speaker Dy the very best. I trust that he will rise to the challenge and steer the House toward greater integrity and responsiveness to the people’s concerns,” added the senator.
Sen. Imee Marcos, meanwhile, said she can only hope that Dy, whom she knows has a very good-natured demeanor, would be able lead the House of Representatives vigorously.
“Kilala ko si Bojie, bata pa kami, magkasama kami sa Kabataang Barangay, sobrang bait nung tao, awang-awa ako sa kanya (I’ve known him since our younger days, we were together at Kabataang Barangay and he is a very kind person, I pity him so much),” Marcos said.
Asked why she thinks so, Marcos replied: “ang hirap ng situation niya eh (He’s in a very difficult situation).”
“Magaling si Bojie kaya lang ang depekto lang niya eh sobrang bait niya (Bojie is capable but the only defect he has is that he is so kind),” she said.
“Eh maraming magpapalusot, maraming magde-demand. Napakahirap ng sitwasyon niya (Many will try to foist, many will try to make demands. He’s in a very difficult situation). Arguably the worst job in the world,” Marcos said.
