DAVAO CITY – Pwersa ng Pilipinong Pandagat party-list Rep. Harold Duterte called on new House Speaker Faustino Dy III to demonstrate empathy towards ordinary Filipinos, particularly workers and fisherfolk, while ensuring that accountability remains within Congress.
“My hope for the new House Speaker is for him to be truly empathetic with our hardworking ‘kababayans’ who continue to toil day and night, yet remain burdened with taxes,” Duterte said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.
Duterte emphasized the need for stronger government attention to the country’s fisherfolk, who he described as “vital to food security and the survival of many coastal communities,” but often the most neglected sector.
“They deserve concrete support and responsive policies,” he said, emphasizing that a change in leadership should not erase past controversies. “Having a new Speaker does not mean we should forget the mistakes and excesses of the past.”
Duterte said accountability must remain, because public service is not about protecting power, but about delivering justice and fairness to the people we are sworn to serve.
