Malacañang welcomed the election of House Speaker Faustino Dy III, saying the administration is ready to work with the new House leadership to advance reforms that will strengthen the economy and improve the lives of Filipinos.
The Palace said this after Dy replaced Martin Romualdez as House Speaker on Wednesday, Sept. 17, amid ongoing investigations into anomalous flood control projects.
In a statement issued by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), Malacañang emphasized that the administration respects the independence of Congress, noting that the leadership transition was an internal matter for lawmakers.
“The President recognizes the vital role of the House of Representatives, especially at a time when the public demands visible results and Congress is called upon to take active steps that address people’s concerns and deliver real improvements in daily life,” the statement read.
“We respect the independence of the chamber and acknowledge the contributions of former Speaker Martin Romualdez,” it added.
At the same time, the administration highlighted its priorities under Dy’s speakership, saying it looks forward to “working with Speaker Faustino Dy III to advance measures that strengthen the economy, ensure basic services, and protect our democracy.”
The Palace added that while leadership has changed, the administration’s broader objective remains the same—to push for policies that respond to Filipinos’ daily struggles.
Meanwhile, Malacañang acknowledged the contributions of Romualdez, who had presided over the chamber since 2022. The Palace credited him for shepherding key administration measures, including the General Appropriations Act and the Maharlika Investment Fund.
With Dy now at the helm, the administration urged lawmakers to unite behind measures that will “move the nation forward” at a critical moment for the country’s economic recovery.
“The Administration remains committed to constructive collaboration with all lawmakers to keep the focus on the needs of Filipino families,” the Palace said.
