Muntinlupa LGU deploys vehicles to provide 'libreng sakay'
The Muntinlupa City government deployed its vehicles to provide free rides to the public amid the transport strike of Manibela and Piston scheduled from Sept. 17 to 19.
According to a Facebook post by the Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau (MTMB), the “libreng sakay” is to help those who will be stranded and affected by the transport strike.
All city government offices allotted vehicles for the operation. The vehicles will operate daily in two shifts at 5 a.m. and 1 p.m. that will start from the Muntinlupa Sports Complex as the assembly area.
The MTMB is in-charge of dispatching and route assignments for the city government vehicles.
In a statement last Sept. 15, Manibela said, “Ang laban kontra-kurapsyon at ang laban ng transport drivers at operators ay hindi magkaibang laban, kundi iisa. Ang ugat ng pagbaha, taas-presyo at krisis sa transportasyon ay iisa rin, ito ang bulok at korap na pamamalakad ng gobyerno (the fight against corruption and the fight of transport drivers and operators are not different fights, but one and the same. The root of the flooding, price hikes and transportation crisis is also the same, this is the rotten and corrupt government management).”
“Habang trilyon ang nilustay sa flood control projects, pinapabayaan namang malunod sa taas-presyo ng langis at pamasahe ang mga tsuper at commuter! Habang walang aksyon ang DOTR [Department of Transportation], itinutulak ang jeepney ‘modernization’ na magpapabaon sa utang sa maliliit na tsuper at operator! (While trillions are squandered on flood control projects, drivers and commuters are left to drown in the high price of oil and fares! While the DOTR has taken no action, jeepney “modernization” is being pushed that will sink small drivers and operators into debt),” it said.
