Move It joins UN agreement on road safety

Motorcycle taxi service firm Move It has reaffirmed its commitment to improving road safety in the Philippines following its participation in the United Nations’ (UN) Statement of Commitment on Road Safety.
Move It, represented by its General Manager Wayne Jacinto, was among the road safety stakeholders that joined the UN-led agreement.
The company expressed its commitment to participate during a meeting last week with UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety Jean Todt and UN Resident Coordinator in the Philippines Arnaud Peral.
During the meeting, Jacinto spotlighted Move It’s two-pronged safety approach, “Driver-Led, Tech-Reinforced.”
“The protection we promise riders and passengers is engineered into both the people on the road and the systems that back them,” he said.
He specifically detailed the end-to-end regimen—spanning skills assessments, background checks, vehicle evaluations, and continuous upskilling—anchored on Move It’s driver-quality program “Pasado Bago Pasada”.
These measures are complemented with real-time safeguards, including overspeeding alerts, fatigue nudges, and trip monitoring, which promotes a safety-first culture among its rider-partners.
“Our aim is clear: high professional standards for riders powered by innovative technology,” said Jacinto.
By joining the UN Statement of Commitment to Improving Road Safety, Move It pledged to pursue evidence-based safety standards, issue quality gear, and promote a safety-first mindset and behavior on the road.
The commitment likewise calls for active support of regulatory measures designed to enhance road safety and protect workers in the transport and delivery sectors.
Jacinto was joined at the event by Grab Philippines Chief Commercial Officer EJ Dela Vega, who framed the move within Grab’s longer safety arc as part of its commitment to the UN agreement.
“Road safety was the genesis of our platform more than a decade ago, and that same discipline guides Grab Deliveries today,” said Dela Vega.
“We back our partners with continuous road-safety training, regular in-app prompts and skills assessments, and routing technologies that help ensure every trip—and every delivery—ends safely,” he added.
Dela Vega said Grab will continue to work with the government, peers, and global advocates in upholding road safety.
Based on the Statement of Commitment, both Move It and Grab agreed to strive for the highest safety standards in operations, guided by evidence-based practices and international benchmarks.
Both firms also committed to actively engage with government regulators to advocate for the enhancement of road safety policies, prioritizing the protection of riders.
The statement also noted that the firms will encourage safe driving behaviors and support the use of UN-standard compliant helmets for all riders.
“We recognize the vital role our industries play in the daily lives of millions of Filipinos. With this responsibility comes the duty to uphold the highest standards of safety for our drivers, passengers, and the communities we serve,” it read.
