DMW recovers 362 balikbayan boxes from dishonest forwarders

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Department of Migrant Workers-9 has recovered more than 300 balikbayan boxes from fraudulent and unscrupulous freight forwarders.
DMW-9 Regional Director Gay Iris Tangcalagan said that 362 boxes are being delivered to their rightful owners in Region 9 (Zamboanga City) and the Basilan-Sulu-Tawi Tawi (BASULTA) region.
They were recovered through a joint retrieval operation by the DMW and the Bureau of Customs.
They were among 2,500 that arrived in Davao City last May. Nearly 10,000 balikbayan boxes have been retrieved and delivered to their owners since 2023.
The DMW reminded the public to transact with licensed and accredited forwarders to avoid being scammed.
