Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso personally visited the fire victims in Barangay 105, Happyland, Tondo, to give them financial assistance.
A total of 2,185 families received P15,000 each, amounting to over P31 million in funds allocated by the city government to help affected residents recover and rebuild their homes.
The fire broke out late Saturday night, Sept.13, in Buildings 7 and 8 along Road 10 in Happyland.
The blaze started around 8:27 a.m. and escalated rapidly as it spread through the densely populated area with houses that were built of light‐materials.
It was declared under control on Sunday morning, Sept. 14.
“Mahirap ang buhay, pero narito ang gobyerno para maramdaman ninyo ang agarang aksiyon at tulong. Huwag mag-give up, may awa ang Diyos, makararaos din tayo (Life is hard, but the government is here to provide immediate action and support. Don’t give up, God is merciful, we will get through this),” the mayor said.
Domagoso also reminded the public that the assistance is strictly for legitimate victims of the fire and should not be taken advantage of by those who were not affected.
