Marikina LGU to restore police outposts to boost crime prevention
Marikina City Mayor Maan Teodoro said police outposts in key strategic areas will be reinstated to strengthen the city’s crime prevention efforts.
During the city government's flag-raising ceremony on Sept. 8, Teodoro said the measure aims to reassure Marikeños that there is a government that truly cares for their safety and well-being.
She also directed police officers and personnel of the Office of the Public Safety and Security (OPSS) to be more proactive, stressing that their goal should not only be quick response but also active crime prevention.
“What we need is a strong deterrent. Kapag alam ng tao na may police na nasa lugar (If they know that there are police in the area), they will think twice before committing a crime. Deterrence is about prevention. Dito natin pinapakita na proactive tayo at hindi lang reactive (This shows that we are being proactive, not just reactive),” Teodoro said.
Citing the need for safety, she said businesses in the city must be protected, while residents should be able to sleep peacefully at night, free from worry.
“Police visibility means peace of mind, and peace of mind builds trust,” she emphasized.
Emergency response
Teodoro also announced that Marikina City Rescue 161, the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), has been reinforced with a medical staff, including a doctor. She added that they will continue to hire more medical personnel and nurses.
“Sama-sama nating ipakita na sa Marikina, walang ningas-kugon, walang pinababayaang tungkulin, at ang serbisyo ay tuloy-tuloy—consistent at may alaga (Let us show that in Marikina, there are no flash in the pan, no neglected duties, and that public service is continuous—consistent and carried out with care),” she said.
