Cavite 4th district Rep. Francisco "Kiko" Barzaga has refused to make public his medical records amid Deputy Speaker Antipolo City 1st district Rep. Ronaldo "Ronnie" Puno unsavory remarks about his mental state.
"Medical records are purely confidential," Barzaga--known for his inordinate fondness for cats--told House reporters in a chance interview on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
A day earlier, Puno bared that the National Unity Party (NUP) was planning to file an ethics case against Barzaga, an ex-party stalwart.
The impending action was in large part because of Barzaga's social media postings wherein he assailed various government officials, including House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III, Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo "Ping" Lacson, and a handful of Cabinet members.
"He is not well and I think everybody is seeing that. Parang (It's like) all is not right di ba...I know he is not well. But we cannot allow this behavior to be unresponded eh," Puno said.
However, Puno pointed out that he was "no doctor".
Barzaga described the NUP chairman's statements about him as "very unprofessional". He further said that requiring congressmen to disclose their medical records over such accusations would set a "bad precedent".
The 27-year-old says the only scenario wherein he would make public his medical documents is when a court of law asks him to.
"Uness there is a court order for me to submit medical records, once I am questioned of my sanity and my ability to properly serve the people of my district, then I will submit a medical record," said the self-proclaimed "congressmeow".
After the interview, Barzaga distributed to reporters his calling card, which had a cat avatar on the front. It's the same avatar that he uses on his social media posts.
