Robert Redford, the beloved Oscar-winning actor and director, has passed away, according to Newsweek on Sept. 16. He was 89.
His death was confirmed in a statement to the New York Times by Cindi Berger, the chief executive of the publicity firm Rogers & Cowan PMK.
She noted that he died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Utah, but did not provide details regarding the cause of death, Newsweek added.
Redford was a significant figure in both acting and directing, renowned for his performances in films such as The Sting, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and Out of Africa, all of which are cherished worldwide.
He won the Oscar for Best Director for Ordinary People in 1981.
