The Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF), in collaboration with the Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation (TMP Foundation) and the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), has launched a dedicated shuttle service under the Healthcare Mobility for All (HEAL) Program.
The initiative aims to provide safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for PGH healthcare professionals, particularly those working late-night and early-morning shifts when public commuting options are limited.
The service addresses the ongoing challenge faced by many healthcare workers in Manila who struggle with long, unpredictable, and often unsafe commutes during off-peak hours.
By easing daily travel, the program seeks to support the well-being and productivity of medical staff who serve patients round-the-clock.
Three Tamaraw UV-based Toyota shuttles will operate along PGH’s three busiest employee routes—Fairview, Paliparan, and SM Dasma via Aguinaldo.
Each vehicle can accommodate up to 12 passengers and will make at least two trips daily: one for those going home after night duty, and another for staff arriving early in the morning.
The service is expected to run starting on the night of September 15 to December 2026, during which it will prioritize the routes and shifts with the highest commuting demand.
The goal is to ensure that PGH employees who need mobility support the most receive it first.
Later this year, the shuttle operations will be upgraded with a smart booking system, allowing healthcare workers to reserve seats in advance through a digital platform.
The system will also help optimize routes and reduce emissions by grouping passengers efficiently.
The program is projected to deliver tens of thousands of safe commutes during its implementation, while also contributing to reduced travel time, lower emissions, and improved overall convenience and safety for healthcare professionals.
The shuttle service is being implemented with Toyota Mobility Solutions Philippines (TMSPH) as the mobility partner, Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) as the engagement partner, and the Deloitte Future of Mobility Solution Centre as the development and implementation partner.
Pras Ganesh, executive program director of the Toyota Mobility Foundation, said the initiative helps healthcare professionals focus on patient care by addressing the burden of inefficient commuting.
Jose Maria Aligada, president of the Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation, said the project reflects the TMP Foundation’s commitment to utilizing smart and connected technologies to enhance health outcomes and quality of life.
PGH Director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi emphasized the importance of the service in providing staff with a safe and dependable means of travel during off-peak hours.
The Toyota Mobility Foundation was established in 2014 by Toyota Motor Corporation to support the development of a more inclusive and mobile society.
It works with partners around the world to address mobility challenges and is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
