Woozi, a member of K-pop boy band Seventeen, enlisted in the Korean military on Sept. 15 to fulfill his mandatory duty as a citizen.
The 28-year-old singer enlisted at 2 p.m. KST on Sept. 15 and will undergo basic military training. After this, he will serve as an active-duty soldier.
Due to his military service preparation, Woozi did not perform at Seventeen’s “New_” world tour on Sept. 13 and 14 at Incheon Asiad Main Stadium. But he was there to watch the concert along with Hoshi, Jeonghan and Wonwoo.
Woozi posted a message to fans about the concert and his military service on Weverse, writing, "Today was the first time I got to see the members and CARATs smiling at my music from outside. That made me quite happy. I'm encouraged before I go in. I’ll serve well and I'll be back in good health."
He is the third member of Seventeen to enlist in the military after Jeonghan who started his military service in September last year, and Wonwoo who enlisted in April.
Woozi is not the only one from Seventeen who is going to enlist in the military. On Sept. 16, Hoshi will start his military service.
Last July, Pledis Entertainment, Seventeen’s agency, announced the military service schedule of Woozi and Hoshi.
“Seventeen members Hoshi and Woozi will be starting their mandatory military service starting this September. Woozi is set to enlist for active duty on September 15, with Hoshi to follow on September 16,” the agency said.
It said, “Following the start of their military service, they will not be able to participate in Seventeen’s group activities. However, they will continue to stay connected with CARAT through a variety of pre-recorded content.”
After fulfilling his military service for 18 months, Woozi will be discharged on March 14, 2027 while Hoshi will be discharged on March 15, 2027.
