Manila gov't kicks off Liliw Products On-the-Go project
The Manila City government formally launched the Liliw Products On-the-Go initiative, featuring high-quality slippers from the town of Liliw in Laguna, recognized as the "Slippers Capital of the Philippines," on Monday, Sept. 15.
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso and Vice Mayor Chi Atienza warmly welcomed the officials of Liliw, Laguna, led by Mayor Ildefonso Monleon and Vice Mayor Arnold Montesinos, during the event's launch at the Kartilya ng Katipunan.
Here, the public may purchase top-quality products hailing from the town as part of the city government's expanded efforts in introducing produce coming from different parts of the country to Manileños.
The project is also part of the Department of Tourism, Culture, and Arts of Manila's (DTCAM) observation of Manila Tourism and Creative Industries Month, which will last until Sept. 17.
"Makasaysayan ang pagtitipon na ito, dahil sa unang pagkakataon ay mabibili na ng ating mga kababayan ang mga produkto mula sa Liliw, Laguna dito mismo sa Kartilya ng Katipunan mula Sept. 15 hanggang 17, 2025. Hinihikayat ko ang lahat na bisitahin at bilhin ang mga de-kalidad na produkto ng Liliw dito sa Lungsod ng Maynila (This gathering is historic, because for the first time, the public will be able to purchase products from Liliw, Laguna right here at the Kartilya ng Katipunan from Sept. 15 to 17, 2025. I encourage everyone to visit and purchase the quality products of Liliw here in the City of Manila)," Domagoso stressed.
RA 11904, also known as the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act, establishes a favorable policy and governance framework for enhancing the global competitiveness of the Philippine creative industries.
Under the law, September is designated as Philippine Creative Industries Month to promote the goods, products, and services of Filipino creators while raising awareness of their contribution to cultural identity and socioeconomic advancement.
RA 11904 also underscores the national government’s commitment to protect and strengthen the rights of creative firms, artists, artisans, creators, workers, indigenous cultural communities, and content providers.
The PCIM emphasizes eight key aspects of the creative industry, including exhibitions, displays, workshops, competitions, exchanges, discussions, domain-specific events, and platforms for business collaboration.
