The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reiterated its firm stance against misconduct within the ranks as it vowed zero tolerance for personnel found engaging in illegal activities.
PCG Commandant Adm. Ronnie Gil Gavan made the emphasis as he condemned a personnel of the Coast Guard Station (CGS) Manila who was arrested for allegedly engaging in the online selling of loose firearms.
“The PCG has zero tolerance for any behavior that undermines public trust, tarnishes organizational integrity, or violates our ethical obligations. I have directed the CGS Manila to fully cooperate with the ongoing criminal investigation,” Gavan stated.
Operatives of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) apprehended alias “Ray” in a buy-bust operation in Brgy. San Isidro, San Simon, Pampanga on Sept. 10 after he allegedly sold loose firearms to an undercover cop.
The suspect was caught while delivering a caliber 5.56 rifle which was monitored to have been posted on social media.
According to the police, Ray was trading loose firearms through an online platform. Also seized from his possession during the operation was a caliber 9mm pistol.
The suspect faces charges for Unlawful Manufacture, Importation, Sale or Disposition of Firearms under Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in relation to Republic Act No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act for trading loose firearms through cyber/online platform.
Should the suspect be found guilty of the crimes, he shall be dishonorably discharged from the Coast Guard service, Gavan emphasized.
“I call on all Coastguardians to uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism, and to remain steadfast in protecting the honor and reputation of the PCG in service to the Filipino people,” he concluded.
