The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday night, Sept. 14, warned residents in Bicol River Basin of possible flooding as rains brought by a low-pressure area (LPA) continue to affect the region.
In its 6 p.m. hydrological forecast, the Bicol River Basin Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (BRBFFWC) reported an on-going threat of river flooding that may cause water confinement in roads and low-lying communities.
“Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over the Bicol River Basin due to the presence of a Low Pressure Area (LPA),” the state weather bureau said.
PAGASA noted that rainfall ranging from 11 to 20 millimeters in the next 24 hours may raise river levels in Camaligan, Ombao, Bato, Buhi, and surrounding municipalities. Areas in Sipocot, San Miguel Bay, and Oas were also listed under close monitoring.
The hydrological map indicated mixed river trends, with certain areas showing increasing levels, while others had either decreasing or no significant change in river flow.
The agency said residents dwelling near Mt. Isarog, Mt. Malinao, and Mt. Mayon were urged to be on alert for potential flooding and rain-induced landslides.
Authorities advised the public to remain vigilant and heed local government warnings, especially those in flood-prone and low-lying areas.
