More than 850 families have been displaced and over 150 homes destroyed after a massive fire tore through a densely populated area of Barangay 105 in Happyland, Tondo, on the night of September 13.
The blaze rapidly escalated to Task Force Bravo, prompting an hours-long firefighting effort and a large-scale humanitarian response now underway.
The fire, which broke out on the evening of September 13, rapidly escalated to Task Force Bravo before it was officially declared out at 6:01 a.m. on September 14 by the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
As of 3 p.m. on September 14, the Manila Department of Social Welfare reported that over 850 families have been affected by the fire.
Emergency food distribution remains ongoing with hot meals, drinking water, and hygiene kits provided to displaced residents.
Relief operations are being carried out at several evacuation centers where more than 3,000 individuals are currently taking shelter.
These include the Barangay 105 Covered Court, Vicente Lim Elementary School, Barangay 101 Covered Court, and Antonio Villegas High School.
City officials are working to ensure that school operations are not disrupted and that families staying in these temporary shelters are provided with basic needs and support services.
Medical teams from the Manila Health Department are stationed at all evacuation centers, providing treatment for minor injuries and conducting health checks for vulnerable residents.
The Bureau of Fire Protection, together with local authorities, has begun investigating the cause of the fire. Early reports suggest a possible electrical issue, though this has not yet been confirmed.
Preliminary assessments indicate that over 150 homes and informal structures were either partially or totally destroyed.
Meanwhile, the Manila Police District continues to implement road closures and maintain order around Mel Lopez Boulevard to facilitate emergency response and debris-clearing operations.
Donation centers have been set up at Manila City Hall and designated barangay offices.
The city government has also pledged to fast-track assistance programs, such as the distribution of financial aid
