Faky Breaky News.
This was how Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson branded on Sunday, September 14 a supposed report claiming that another Senate leadership change is in the works.
Lacson is referring to a post by “OneTV Philippines” posted at 9:12 PM Saturday, with the caption "BREAKING: Another Regodon (sic) in the Senate?", which claimed that “Senate Minority Leader Allan (sic) Peter Cayetano secures numbers for Senate presidency — a reliable source tells OneTV Philippines.”
Lacson said the reported clearly underestimated the intelligence of the new Senate majority bloc.
“Peke (fake). Intended to deceive and confuse. Underestimating the intelligence of the new Senate majority bloc, nagba-baka sakaling may tumalon at magpirma (they were attempting to convince others to jump and sign a resolution),” Lacson said of the post on X.
“Malevolent, underhanded, foul and desperate. Kung may song na (if there’s a song) 'Achy Breaky Hearts', eto naman (this one is) - 'Faky Breaky News',” he added.
According to the Facebook page of “OneTV Philippines,” it is a “Digital News Network Globally-Based in Davao City and Pagadian City.”
A check of its YouTube channel as of Sunday morning showed it has fewer than 2,000 subscribers, had its last update in July 2024.
Lacson said there is “a proper and professional way” to effect a change in the Senate presidency and that is by calling or approaching the Senate President, informing and showing him a resolution signed by at least 12 senators so he can vacate the post.
“Then the sitting Senate President resigns at the opening of the session, not through a media outlet, whether nationally recognized or obscure,” he said.
Last September 8, 15 senators signed a resolution electing Sen. Vicente Sotto III as the new Senate leader, ousting then Senate president Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero.
The leadership change also saw Lacson being elected as Senate President Pro Tempore and chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, and Sen. Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri as the new Senate Majority Leader.
The new Senate minority bloc is led by Sen. Alan Cayetano, and is composed by Senators Rodante Marcoleta, Christopher “Bong” Go, Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, Robinhood “Robin” Padilla, Imee Marcos, Joel Villanueva, Jinggoy Estrada and Escudero.
