2 people injured by fireworks at Seventeen's concert in Incheon; agency apologizes
Two people were injured by fireworks at K-pop boy band Seventeen’s "New_" world tour in Incheon, South Korea on Sept. 13.
Seventeen launched their new world tour at Incheon Asian Main Stadium which was built for the 17th Asian Games in 2014 and has 29,376 seats.
During the final segment of Seventeen’s concert, fireworks were set off to celebrate the event. However, some of the fireworks fell into the direction of the audience. Videos of the incident were posted on X.
Following the incident, Pledis Entertainment issued a statement on Sept. 14 to say that two people were injured by the fireworks.
“During the final segment of the ‘Seventeen World Tour [New_] in Incheon’ concert on Saturday, September 13, some of the special effects fireworks unexpectedly fell toward the audience,” it said.
It added, “While a professional company established safe distances and directions, and conducted repeated inspections prior to the concert, we understand that this incident occurred due to defects in some of the products.”
“We deeply apologize to all audience members who were startled or inconvenienced by this unexpected situation,” the agency said.
Pledis said, “The two audience members confirmed to have been injured on-site received immediate treatment at the temporary clinic within the concert hall and returned home. We will actively support the affected individuals in their subsequent treatment procedures to ensure a speedy recovery.”
“We will send a separate message to audience members who attended on the day of the concert to determine whether there are any additional injuries and to determine detailed information,” it said.
Pledis Entertainment said, Furthermore, to prevent a similar situation from recurring, the problematic products will be excluded from the performance scheduled for Sunday, September 14. After a more thorough safety inspection, special effects will be performed.”
“Once again, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and concern this may have caused. We will continue to prioritize the safety of our audience and do our best to create an even safer performance environment,” it said.
The second day of Seventeen’s concert will be held on Sept. 14 at the same venue.
