No tsunami threat to Philippines after 7.5-magnitude quake off Russia — Phivolcs

There is no tsunami threat to the Philippines following a strong offshore earthquake that struck near the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia, the and Seismology (Phivolcs) assured on Saturday, Sept. 13.
Phivolcs issued Tsunami Information No. 1 at 10:54 a.m., about 16 minutes after the quake hit at 10:38 a.m.
According to the agency, the tremor had a magnitude of 7.5 and occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.
“Hazardous tsunami waves are possible for coasts located within 300 kilometers of the earthquake epicenter,” Phivolcs said in its advisory.
The agency stressed that there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines and that the advisory was issued for information purposes only.
“No action required,” it noted.
