AUTHORITIES announce the filing of terrorism financing charges against two men in Panay Island. (PRO-6)
ILOILO CITY — Two persons were charged for terrorism financing in Panay Island.
The Police Regional Office-6, the 3rd Infantry Division (ID) of the Philippine Army, and the Regional Task Force to End Local Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC) confirmed the case.
Col. Erwin Lamzon, 3rd ID spokesman, said charges for violating the Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act of 2012 and the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 have been filed against alias “Dagul” and “Benj” on Sept. 11.
Prosecutor Flosemer Chris Gonzales, RTF-ELCAC spokesperson, said charges were filed after a convicted former New People’s Army (NPA) rebel provided information about the suspects.
The suspects who are still at large allegedly bribed an Aklan-based contractor to collect money to be used to finance the NPA.
“PRO-6 remains steadfast in its commitment to protect communities and uphold the rule of law. This is more than just filing cases, it is a decisive step toward cutting the lifeline of terrorism and bringing hope and peace to every community,” said Police Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan, PRO-6 chief.
