Detained former Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. was allowed to post bail on one of his murder cases by a Manila court, his legal counsel announced on Friday, Sept. 12.
According to Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 12 recommended a bail of P120,000 for the former solon's temporary liberty on the murder charge filed against him over the death of Basay mayoralty candidate Cliff Cordova's bodyguard named Lester Bato in May of 2019.
Topacio clarified that Teves will not be released yet, as they are still waiting for the other courts' decision on their camp's bail petitions for his other charges.
These include his murder case of two other individuals in Negros Oriental in 2019 and his murder, attempted murder, and frustrated murder case over the killing of late Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and other individuals on March 4, 2023, in Pamplona, Negros Oriental.
"We still have pending bail petitions in two other cases. However, this is a manifestation that the cases against Mr. Teves are weak since they are just politically motivated,” Topacio said.
